A Conversation With My Mentor

I just took about 4 grams of mushrooms.
No, that’s not me calculating my macros…
Yes, I’m talking about the fun time, kill off your ego, type of mushrooms.
I think I’ve got about a 30-40 minute window before I go full retard so I figured that’s the perfect amount of time to write a post here.
I’m not sure what’s going to come up on this trip…
Probably some emotional baggage that I need to work through…
Also, some profound stupidity is more than likely going to show up.
Whatever it is, there’s no going back now, so might as well have a good time.
I did it in the form of a tea, so it should only last about 3-5 hours, I’ll be sure tomorrow to report back to you what went down.
But let’s talk about the conversation I had with my mentor today…
I was looking for some advice on a career decision, I have a deal on the table which I’ve been considering…
Something in my gut has been telling me it’s not a good idea, it’s great money, but the overall level of commitment and responsibility is throwing me off.
I don’t think I’d really have much room to take on other projects if I took this one on, so naturally, this has created some hesitancy.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how success in business is not really making good decision after good decision…
It’s more so just not making a bunch of bad decisions.
Because it’s really the bad decisions that throw you off course.
And to me, it felt like a bad decision to take on a project that required me to be on calls every single day and several other calls during the week along with huge amounts of responsibility attached to it in terms of execution and fulfillment.
But the money was pretty solid…
After I explained this whole situation, he didn’t ask me questions about the project really, he asked me how much money I made last year.
Funny enough, if you read my post yesterday, I actually had a whole story about how fucking frustrating it was for me to do my taxes…
But I did have that number at the top of my head so it looks like everything happens for a reason.
He then asked me, “How much of that money do you have in your bank account right now?”
The answer was about 1/5th.
“I don’t think you have a problem with the project Nick, I think you have a problem with your spending.”
No! Damnit! Could you give me the answers I want to hear?!
“Because if you had -” Woah okay starting to feel these mushrooms pretty quickly, nice.
“Because if you had 3x the amount of money in your bank account this wouldn’t be such a huge dilemma, you’re only considering taking this project on because you want some more money even though you have a good amount saved up.”
“Yeah…”
“Don’t do work just because you want money, it’ll lead to shit work.”
He always gives advice that I need to hear, not just advice I want to hear.
Anywho, I’ll leave you with that.
My eyelids and hands are starting to tingle and I still need to get this uploaded to substack before things get too trippy.
Talk to you tomorrow my friend.
All the best!
