(Business Talks) My Two Core Deal Principles

So I just got off a phone call with a really cool dude who for the time being I will keep anonymous…

He’s a really dope figure in the men’s personal development space…

And in the digital marketing world, he’s also really well known with a solid brand.

He and I chatted on Monday on a call with no agenda, we just wanted to connect…

But when he started to explain his business model to me, I noticed a gap in the way he was selling his products.

I’ve fixed that hole before for others and I know I can fix it for him as well.

The second I started to explain the solution to him he pulled out a notebook and pen which is a key indicator that you’ve got someone’s interest…

We chatted some more, went elsewhere in the conversation, and as we wrapped up the call I asked him…

“Anything I can do to serve you, brother?”

He responded, “Honestly man I’d be interested in exploring what you just laid out for me, that sounds like fun.”

I told him I’d get a blueprint together explaining everything and I’d hit him up to go over it.

Today we had that call going over the blueprint, and he’s on board so this weekend we’re going to take the next steps to get started with everything.

Setting up business deals really can be that easy, especially when you operate from these two principles…

  1. Only work with people who you know you can help
  2. Make it as effortless as possible for them

You know, I fucked #1 up a few times inside of my business and it still makes me feel like a piece of shit.

I’ve made amends with it, but it’s really not a chapter of my business that I’m proud of.

I took on projects where I really didn’t know what I was doing…

Or where I was way over my head and had way too many plates to spin with other projects.

I was so focused on making money that I didn’t really focus on the questions of…

Can I actually help this person? Do I have the capacity or time to help this person?

Once I made those mistakes and saw the outcomes of them I swore to never go down that route again and to make sure to always operate from that first and second principle.

Life punched me in my mouth to help me learn these lessons.

Don’t be a greedy SOB, it’s one of the 7 deadly sins for a reason.

Principle #2 is just hands down the best way to close someone…

I do 75% of the work, you keep 75% of the profit, sound fair?

No upfront payments, no massive retainers, just pure performance.

Now, the key is to work with people where the 25% you keep is still a lot of cash!

I’m really excited about this deal though, we’re going to change a lot of people’s lives and I’m really excited to help this guy grow his business…

I guess this is publishing client 2 for Verge Publishing?

Let me lock in everything this weekend, and then I can confirm that…

I’ll keep ya’ll in the loop!
