Inputs And Outputs

Almost every single problem you’ve encountered in life was the result of you thinking the wrong thoughts.
And it’s inverse for almost every single accomplishment in your life, those were due to thinking the right thoughts.
The reason I say almost is that there certainly are “black swan” occurrences…
I don’t think that someone ramming into the back of your car is due to you thinking the wrong thoughts…
And I don’t think a random stranger walking up to you and giving you $100 is because of you thinking the right thoughts…
But I do know that understanding this concept will create not only a great sense of relief in your life but should also create a lot of introspection.
What it basically means is that every single output you experience is due to a specific input.
And you can change these inputs.
The reason she broke up with you and broke your heart?
You weren’t thinking the right thoughts in regards to managing your relationship and your attachment to her.
You can change that.
The reason you’re having financial struggles?
You weren’t thinking the right thoughts in regards to your ability to earn and your ability to save.
You can change that.
The reason you’re overweight and walking around with a gut?
You weren’t thinking the right thoughts in regards to your health, fitness, self-image, and diet.
You can change that.
Understanding this opens up a different perspective on reality because it gets rid of the idea that life happens to you…
And it instead instills a much better belief which is that you happen to life.
Here’s a story that I think gives a good snapshot of how I utilize this knowledge…
The other day I was flying back from Miami, and by the end of the 4.5-hour flight I was pretty tired and hungry as well.
I told myself that I need to go home, drop off my stuff, unload my laundry, unpack my bags, and then go hit leg day at the gym.
I made it a condition that after everything is done, I’ll reward my productivity with a nice juicy steak and some sweet potatoes.
But when I got home and started unpacking my backpack, I realized something…
I had left my laptop on the plane in the storage compartment in front of me on the plane.
I immediately freaked out a little bit.
Cussing, throwing my backpack across the room, and even kicking over a laundry bin.
In my mind, at that moment, I had just lost a $4500 laptop that I purchased maybe 2 weeks ago.
I won’t lie, it did feel good to get a little bit of rage out but I knew these were the wrong thoughts to be having…
I know the version of me that I’m trying to create doesn’t have child-like tantrums like this.
I calmed myself down, went on google, and looked up how to go about recovering what I left on the plane.
“Fill out a lost item report and we will get back to you in 3-5 days.”
Absolutely not.
I could’ve accepted those thoughts, “I guess I’ll have to wait a few days to get my laptop.”
But to me, I refused to believe that there wasn’t a way for me to go to the airport and just pick it up.
I called the airport which was about as productive as calling any facility owned by the government…
Voicemail, voicemail, voicemail…
Operator telling me to fill out an online report…
Voicemail, voicemail, voicemail…
Again, at this point, I could have accepted the thought that I have to wait a few days.
But I refused to think those thoughts, It made no sense to me.
I kept calling and calling until finally, I got a hold of a nice old man at the help desk.
He told me that on the first floor of the west side of baggage claim there was an office I could go to that should be able to help.
I hopped in my Jeep, drove back to the airport, waited in line for 20 minutes, and boom I got my laptop back.
This is kind of a trivial example, but just imagine if you had that same hard-headedness with whatever area of your life you’re trying to improve.
That’s at least what I’ve been thinking about the past few days.
Tantrum aside, I was proactive and refused to believe that I couldn’t achieve my desired outcome.
What if you did this with your ability to earn an income?
You could easily accept the thoughts that it’s hard to learn a high value skill and the market is saturated with copywriters, marketers, coders, and so on…
But you’d be thinking the wrong thoughts.
And as a result, you’ll stay broke.
However, you could think the right thoughts which revolve around becoming world-class at a skillset and providing overwhelming amounts of value to the market…
And as a result, you will inevitably achieve the goal you’re looking for.
Give some thought to this…
Open yourself up to the fact that you may be thinking incorrectly.
And ask yourself, how should I think if I were to be thinking correctly?
This is a trial and error process obviously, but mentors definitely speed it up for you.
Inputs and outputs my friend…
Inputs and outputs.
