Meditation

I’ve talked about meditation in passing before…
And I figured I would expand on it with you today.
So if you know me by now, you know that I’m very big on the fact that words have meaning…
And the meaning is what matters.
(Get it? Man of Meaning? Starting to make sense?)
So if we look up the definition of meditation, it can be defined as…
“Meditation is a practice in which an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.”
So what can change is the technique we’re using for meditation…
But the outcome we’re looking for is clarity, calmness, and groundedness.
I’ve tried a lot of different types of meditation…
I personally am not too much of a fan of the “don’t think about anything and just focus on your breath” meditation.
To me, I gain absolutely nothing from that.
I understand why people say that it’s useful because it trains you to silence thoughts.
But that can be achieved in so many different ways…
Discipline is one of the best ways in my opinion.
You’ve made a commitment, you do it, end of discussion.
I’ve had lazy days but still found the motivation to write these posts and hit the gym.
I didn’t need to focus on my breath to silence my thoughts which wanted me to take a break and chill out…
I just did the shit I needed to do.
I’m not saying that type of meditation is useless, I just personally am not using it at the moment nor do I like it all that much.
More so what I’ve really been enjoying is actually observing my thoughts and being conscious of them…
And then questioning them as well…
“Why do I think that?”
“When did I form that belief?”
“How does this help me?”
Because if you just keep silencing the thoughts, you never really have the incentive to change them because you’re not detecting that anything is wrong with them.
So lately the form of meditation I’ve been practicing is actually a guided meditation from my friend Jesse Elder…
I’ll link it for you down below…
But really what it focuses on is feeling the energy moving through your body…
And directing your thoughts towards pleasant memories and things you want to see happen.
I’ve been doing it twice a day for a little under a week now, and the benefits have been impressive.
I’m calmer…
I’ve noticed any anxiety I’ve had lately is a lot less frequent…
And my overall tenacity and determination to get what I want have increased as well.
To me, that form of meditation is way better than just silencing my mind.
I don’t want a silent mind.
I want a mind thinking the correct thoughts…
And for it to realize when it’s thinking the wrong thoughts so it can correct those to the right thoughts.
To be clear, I think any practice to achieve mindfulness is good for you.
These are just my personal thoughts as of late.
So before all the meditation nerds come at me with the “tHaT’s NoT RiGhT, tHE pOiNt Of MeDiTaTioN iS tO…”
Please leave me alone.
Go meditate somewhere.
By the way, here’s the link you can click to check out Jesse’s guided meditation.
