"Nick, Meet Future You."

I just got done with quite literally the most astounding visualization exercise I’ve ever done…
And it inspired me to write this up.
I’m heading out to Austin, TX on Sunday for a few reasons…
- I have a private day scheduled with my man Jesse Elder on Monday where we are going to be working on something called “Operation Avatar Upgrade” which does exactly what the title says…
- I’m attending an event called Copy Accelerator hosted by my friend Stefan Georgi, which should be some great networking amongst business owners in the direct response industry and fellow copywriters
So to prepare for my trip…
I hit up Jesse the other day and asked if there was any material he had that I could go through which would help prep me for our private day.
He sent me a Zoom recording and said, “Say hello to your future self.”
It was very similar to a guided meditation, but I would more so call it a guided visualization.
Eventually, as we moved past some different breathing exercises and other things to get me in somewhat of a trance state…
We came to the part where we meet a future version of myself.
I met the 30-year-old version of me, and he was more than I imagined he could be.
The first thing I noticed was how much more muscle mass he had packed onto his body.
I was just standing there poking future me’s bicep and pecs as he laughed and said, “Yeah man, all the time in the gym is worth it.”
What also really stood out to me was how regally dressed up he was…
He was wearing this white button-up shirt and these brown pants, both of which fit him remarkably well.
I looked at his wrist and he was wearing a gold Rolex Day-Date with a brown dial in the middle which really caught my attention.
He laughed and said, “Crazy, right?”
But then he kind of stepped to the side and said, “But all this accessory stuff man, it doesn’t matter, this is what I really wanted to show you.”
“I want you to meet your wife and kids.”
I couldn’t see their faces, in fact, I couldn’t even really see my face, but I could feel their energy and it was so beautiful.
This little light-filled silhouette of a small kid ran up to me and looked up at me.
He just filled me up with so much joy, he was laughing and then ran back to his mom who I could tell was pregnant with another kid on the way.
I was trying to see what she looked like, but all I could see was light.
Future me looked at me and said, “She’s gorgeous, don’t worry man. I picked a good one, I don’t want to spoil it for you.”
I asked him what my career looked like and he said “You’re going to help a lot of people.”
“With?”
“Spiritual warfare.”
“What about copywriting?”
“You’re going to do it for yourself, and people will hire you out occasionally but don’t worry about money man, you’re going to have more of it than you know what to do with, you’ll start giving it away just because you don’t care about it and would rather help people.”
“How do I help people with Spiritual Warfare?”
“You have to help yourself win your own internal spiritual war, right now you think it’s surface-level habits that people have to break but it goes so much deeper than things like Weed, Porn, or Lust.”
“How do I win my own internal spiritual war?”
“You’re doing it already man, and you’re not far from winning, this is the age where you decided to really take control of it and you found pure joy.”
Honestly, I completely zoned out from the fact that during this entire time Jesse was giving me instructions during the visualization…
And at this point, he was saying it’s time to wrap up and give future you a hug goodbye.
He was really strong.
He pulled me in and gripped me so tight and I could just feel this overwhelming sense of self-love and self-respect pouring over me.
He thanked me for being me and walking the path to becoming him, and just like that with three big breaths I was back in the living room.
“Holy fucking shit” were the first words that came out of my mouth.
He was amazing.
It was a very clear picture of what I’m trying to create in my life and I couldn’t believe how amazing he was.
The other day I was thinking about how we need to have something we’re striving for…
We need a vision…
Otherwise, we start to drift around aimlessly…
I couldn’t think of a better vision to create than this version of future Nick.
I think it’s useful to spend time to really focus on this character you’re trying to create that’s 10 years down the road.
Having that long vision will just set you up for so much success.
And best of all…
It’ll keep you focused.
