Overcoming Imposter Syndrome

I don’t think someone can embody a worse trait than being consistently fake.

A fraud, a phony, a liar, a charlatan.

(I say consistently because I do believe we all lie to ourselves from time to time, and your job is to recognize it, self-correct, and not let it become a habit.)

This is why imposter syndrome is so prevalent in today’s world, people want to show up but don’t feel ready just yet…

They take one step forward, and there’s this feeling of, “Hey this doesn’t feel right, I don’t feel authentic.”

And rather than listen to their gut, they go to other people who conquered this through logos, nothing but pure logic.

“Well have you thought about it like this?”

“Other people do this, why shouldn’t you XYZ?”

The way you overcome imposter syndrome is through ethos, it’s through your character, your identity, and the way you show up in this world.

When you try to solve it through logic, you’re building everything on a weak foundation.

When I look in the mirror and ask myself, “Am I real?”

(And not in a weird esoteric, am I me or am I this vessel, kind of introspection. I mean, “Am I a real motherfucker?”)

I can say yes, not because of some logic cooked up in a book that told me to think like a badass.

It’s not because I know how to make money and I got some cash in the bank.

It’s not because I hit the gym and continue to develop my fitness.

It’s not because I preach some spiritual knowledge that I have access to.

It’s because I’ve burned myself to the ground so many times, and like the Phoenix, I’ve risen over and over again.

I HAVE DIED MANY TIMES.

When I look in the mirror and see the young man staring back at me, I can’t help but feel a sense of purpose in this continuous death and rebirth cycle.

It’s about filling a role and then living out the actions which embody that role.

For me, it’s the journey of living out a partial reincarnation of an archetypal messiah.

I just know my life’s purpose is to help alleviate suffering for other people, to help make their life better.

The only reason I can show up and speak on this topic is that I’ve walked this path…

I’ve healed some wounds, and I know how to show others how to do the same.

It’s my actions and beliefs that allow me to disregard imposter syndrome entirely because I’ve built the foundation on identity.

Now obviously there are levels to this…

I still have problems, insecurities, self-limiting beliefs, and a whole gambit of other issues.

This is why right now, you don’t see me offering some $997 course on how to find meaning in life.

Do I want to do something like that later down the road? Hell yeah.

But at this point, I know where I’m at in the journey, and this stage requires patience and building.

And that’s another part of overcoming imposter syndrome…

Sometimes you just need to realize that you’re at level 2 and acting like you’re at level 10 is going to make you feel like a fraud.

That’s at least how I look at it.
