Creative Advisor Emails

Email 1 - Story Based Email I got to my hotel The Pendry in Hollywood around 8 or 9 am. I still had to write 3 hooks before our shoot started at 2 PM, so I grabbed a coffee from downstairs and then went to the rooftop. Cranking out work with my headphones on I felt a wave of anxiety rush over me. “What the fuck are you doing bro? You’re about to walk into this dude's house and act like you’re some big-shot director?” My higher self responded, “Yes, lower self, that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I got this.” I wasn’t sure exactly how everything was going to go down but I had a conversation with my mentor the night before. I remember asking him, “I just feel like they’re going to judge me because I’m really young and they won’t take me seriously. How do I prevent that?” “The second you walk on set, you need to set the tone. You’re the captain of the ship, act like it.” (I’m actually smoking a cigar while writing this and accidentally inhaled, been smoking too many cigs lately, insane nicotine rush right now haha oops) I got to his house 45 minutes before we were scheduled to start. On the drive up the Hollywood Hills, me and the uber driver who barely spoke english were marveling at these INSANE mansions overlooking the Los Angeles skyline. When I got to the house, I walked up the driveway and got to a big black gate with a call box attached to it. I punched the “CALL” button on it and waited to get buzzed in. The box went “BZZZTTT” and the gate door unlatched. I walked to the front door of this monstrosity of a mansion and rang the doorbell to a massive front door. I can’t remember who let me in, but when I walked in I saw the video crew getting everything ready. What shocked me the most was how beautiful everything was. Floor-to-ceiling windows, sunlight beaming in, immaculate mid-century modern furniture, and a gorgeous swimming pool in the backyard. Here I was, Jordan Belfort’s house. I walked maybe 15 steps forward and saw my main point of communication that I had been going back and forth with over email… For the purpose of this email, let’s just call him Mike. But right next to Mike was the man himself, The Wolf Of Wall Street. He was a lot shorter than I imagined. I shook both their hands and introduced myself… “Nice to meet you guys, my name is Nicholas Verge, I’m going to be your director on-set today.” “Cool.” “I’m going to go check in with the crew and see where everything is at.” I was completely blind on who the crew was, these were Jordan’s guys but they were the hands on my ship today. One of them had pink highlights in his hair… The other one was a redhead (actually) and was wearing a blue Los Angeles Dodgers jersey… And the last guy was a tall lanky European-looking guy. I introduced myself to all of them and asked how much time they needed before they were ready to shoot the first shot. “We don’t know where we’re setting up, we got to get the lighting first.” I pulled out my shoot schedule, ran them through it, and we decided that the massive portrait Jordan had by the front door was the best bet. INSERT IMAGE I circled back to Mike and Jordan to update them on what our shoot schedule looked like. “Hey Nick” I looked around to see Mike standing by a bunch of cardboard boxes. “What’s up?” “Could you help us set up the whiteboard we are going to be using for the explainer section?” I wanted to say yes but I didn’t really like the frame I was being put into. On a shoot, you always have runners and set hands to help out with this shit, the director never does anything like that. I looked over at pink hair dude who was the set hands for the day. “(Insert Pink Hair Guy’s Name) can help with that, I need to review the script with Jordan.” “Oh okay.” And this may not seem like a big deal, but I’m writing a whole girthy ass email about it for a reason. This is a massive deal. You see, throughout your life, people will impose “frames” on you and it’s up to you whether or not you allow it. That’s only IF you’re actually aware of the frame being imposed on you. Think about it like this… If I were able to set up a chess board and put the pieces where I wanted them, before you and I even started the game… I have the advantage, right? Well, that’s what frame control is all about. You don’t allow the opposing party to set up the board in their favor. The frame I was creating when I walked into that ridiculous mansion was, “I am the director. I am in charge. I am a professional.” The frame Mike was trying to create was, “I am in charge. This kid is just a kid. He’s just helping out today.” Nope. Like Lebron James in the 4th quarter of a championship game, I slapped the living shit out of the layup that Mike was trying to make. From that point on, Mike wasn’t asking me to do grunt shit. He understood who I was, what I was doing, and why I was here. I could tell he respected me more because of how I carried myself. You need to understand how to do the same with clients. There are almost always going to be tasks that come up which are below your pay grade. Just politely decline them and say that’s not within the scope of your service agreement. Which reminds me, I probably need to write an email about service agreements soon. Anywho… Have a good Monday friends, I hope you enjoyed this story. This is why I personally believe that we need to channel our focus onto the things that we actually care about. Otherwise, the things that you don't care about will take control over your life… And this basically means that a bunch of irrelevant shit is going to take control over your time. So I want you to think about this… It seems like every single week there's a new crisis or some breaking news story or some crazy shit going on, right? There's a school shooting here… This country is invading this country… This new law is being passed… This new lawsuit is going on… This random BS is happening over here and over there… You're constantly being fed information about these different “new” topics. Well, let me ask you this… Has your life ever improved from you spending time on consuming information around these new breaking stories? The answer is probably no, right? It didn't make you any more money. It didn't allow you to get any healthier. And it probably didn't make you any happier. In fact, in most cases, all it did was give you a sudden rush of anxiety wondering about what the fuck is going to happen. And almost always, nothing has ever happened to you. Sure, some people in the outside world were affected by whatever tragedy of a news story was pumped out But you personally were not affected whatsoever. This is why I personally believe you shouldn't pay attention to current events. It’s a waste of time, and it does not add anything to your life whatsoever Any time I see something about current events, for the most part, I ignore it… And you should too. You’re better off spending your limited focus on improving your skill set, reaching out to clients, or working on client projects to be able to deliver a phenomenal result. Usually, when I share this perspective, a lot of people say that I'm heartless and don't care about the tragedies that other people are undergoing at all. That’s not true I do care. However, I care about the progression of my life WAY more than all that other shit. Yes, I am selfish. Why? Because when push comes to shove most people are full of it. They virtue signal, to make themselves feel better and look better. You cannot allow these people to bully you into give away the most precious resource of your life… Which is your focus. And this doesn't just apply to politics or current world events in the news… This applies to anything you don't want to put your focus into. Your friends invite you out to some sort of boys' night out on the town hitting bars and approaching 6’s to try and get laid. Is that really what you want to be putting your focus, your time, and your energy into? At the moment that it's presented to you, maybe. But the key to your success is to be operating from the perspective of what the ideal version of you 10 years down the line would be thinking. Use them as your judge. Because I guarantee you that the version of you which has created a life of freedom and is set for life financially… That version of you would tell you to stop screwing around and wasting your time. I personally believe that this question has become more and more prevalent than ever before in human history… And the only reason I can muster up as to why is that we have quite literally become confused on the definition itself. You have no lack of “red pill experts” trying to tell you that a man is this or a man is that. A man is in really good shape. A man is desired by lots of women. A man is making a lot of money. A man is able to buy whatever he wants. While these things may be true, these are byproducts of becoming a man, you cannot focus on them alone. I know plenty of very successful individuals who are 45 years old and have everything they've ever wanted in life… But they’re still boys. I'm not going to sit here and act like I am the utopian definition of what a man should be, not at all. I do my best to act like a man, but from time to time I definitely do slip into my boy-ish tendencies because through my own ignorance I am not acting out the best definition I’ve been able to create as to what a man is… A man does what is required no matter what. A man maintains honor and integrity. A man is someone who takes care of other people around him. Now as someone steps into this identity, it’s natural that they will want to take responsibility of their physical prowess. They hit the gym and get in good shape. When someone does what’s required, they can figure out how to create an income stream for themselves that's a little bit more independent from a job. (Not to say that men don’t work jobs, I’m just outlining one example here.) And as a result, they probably are able to purchase the finer things in life. But again these are all byproducts of what a man is supposed to do: He does what is required while maintaining honor and integrity and taking care of the people around him. Again, I want to overemphasize that I'm not some sort of masculinity expert or anything like that. At the end of the day, I'm 23 years old and more than likely my definition will change as I go on in life But this is the best definition that I've been able to create after spending a lot of time with men, that in my eyes, are giants compared to me. I don't hang around 23 year olds… I hang around men who are 45 years old and seasoned with life experience. I hang around men who have families. I hang around men who are much further ahead of me in life And cumulatively what I've been able to put together as the common factor between all these men are those three aspects that I shared earlier. Literally, everything that you want in life… If you focus on those three areas, you will receive it. Doesn’t matter whether it’s in the realm of creating a new income stream… Quitting your job… Landing clients… Getting in better shape… Or anything else... Commitment, honor, integrity, and care will get you what you want. A lot of you reach out to me and say how much you enjoy reading my emails, watching my videos, or enjoy just listening to me talk or write about my thoughts. First of all, I wanted to say that I deeply appreciate any kudos that are given to me on something which I have focused a lot of my energy on improving throughout my life. Now, I’ve observed a common theme that I hear from people: “I just feel like the work is so coherent, it's easy to read, and very easy to understand. How do you do that?” Great question. You see, writing is really nothing more than the process of being able to take the thoughts in your head… And be able to convey them through written form. The best writing is clear, coherent, and easy to understand. Each thought builds on the previous thought… Each line Builds on the previous line… Everything that I'm trying to convey is presented in a straightforward manner. Jordan Belfort talks about this in the realm of sales with his concept of Straight Line Selling. Let me give you a visual explanation of what this looks like: INSERT IMAGE As you can see we have a straight line which is the ideal path of a coherent argument. On the top we have Pluto, and on the bottom we have Uranus The key to being able to write effectively is understanding how to stay on this straight line with each and every word that you write. A lot of times, ineffective writing or copy is the idea that’s being conveyed falling off this straight line and going off to Pluto or Uranus. In other words, what’s being written has no relevance to the core argument or line of logic. Now, it’s okay to take a trip to Pluto and intentionally go off track but it’s important to remind the reader that you will be back on track in just a moment. This form of speaking to the reader while they're reading, a form of breaking the fourth wall, is extremely captivating because the person feels like there's an actual dialogue going back and forth. But let’s focus on good writing, and not get too off topic. (See what I did there?) So the core point is this: Whenever you're writing something, ask yourself, “Is what I am writing right now relevant to the main point that I would like to get across to my reader?” If the answer is no, delete it. If the answer is yes, keep it. Another way to think about this concept is to imagine that you have a little grumpy man sitting next to your laptop while you write. And every single time you say something, he asks you, “Why should I give a shit?” If you can't answer his question, just delete what you're writing, and get back on track. Think about this. Let’s say you’re really into grass… No, not weed… Just regular old green grass. The type of grass that cows eat… Ya know, the one in your backyard? And you’ve just moved into a beautiful new home with a boisterously large backyard… However, no grass, just dirt. For some reason, in this metaphorical story, you’re Australian and you tell yourself… “Well fuck me mate I think it’s time we grow some grass, roight?” So you head to home depot… You know what… No. Fuck home depot. We’re making a U-turn… We’re going to Lowes. At Lowe’s, we grab all the stuff we need. A bunch of soil… Fertilizer… A lot of grass seeds… Sprinklers and a water system… Shovels… A lawn mower… Grass nutrient stuff… Ya know, all the stuff you need to grow grass. You take all of this stuff back to your place along with a Jose, Juan, and Jesus you met outside the Lowes… You get to work in the backyard and crank up the mariachi music while setting everything up. And within a few hours, you’re ready to go… Everything is set in place, the sprinklers will come on twice a day, and sooner or later you’ll have an amazing bed of grass. Okay now imagine this… You go outside the next morning and are completely outraged that there’s not a full bed of grass in your backyard. You race all the way to Lowe’s… You find Jose, Juan, and Jesus and start shouting at them demanding answers. If you did that, you’d be a total dickhead, right? Because things like grass take time to grow, right? Well my friend, the things we’re trying to create in our life… It takes time. If we’re not experiencing a good reality… That means we’re not thinking good thoughts. But this reality is a cumulation of alllllll the negative thoughts (or not ideal thoughts) you’ve been thinking. You need to be willing to consistently think the right thoughts for 30, 60, 90, or even 120 days… Shit, you may need to wait a year or so of thinking the right thoughts before what you want comes to you. When it comes to the world of stacking skills and being able to learn how to become a successful freelancer… You have to realize that the right thoughts revolve around you: 1. Improving your skillset 2. Reaching out to prospective clients 3. Providing a phenomenal service to those clients The wrong thoughts are: 1. Getting shiny object syndrome and jumping ship 2. Feeling entitled to results without work 3. Being nervous to take action Simple, really. Grow some grass. So I constantly have guys reaching out to me trying to pitch me on their services… Especially on Twitter. Most of the time, the messages are downright awful…. It’s obvious that the person has no idea what they're doing or they're learning from someone who has no idea what they're doing. Cold outreach is not difficult when you operate off of one base principle: Respect the person’s time. Most of the DMs I get are just flat-out disrespectful “Hey bro you down to hop on a call?” Dude, I don't even know who the fuck you are. Or sometimes the question is more so… “Hey dude, here's a generic compliment based on the first piece of content that I saw on your profile, have you considered ever doing the service that I'm offering?” While this one is not as disrespectful as the last one, to anyone with a trained eye, they know the person sending this is totally full of shit. If you're going to craft an Outreach message and want to give a compliment, make it a genuine compliment… When something isn't genuine it just feels wrong. Oh, you really liked my post about XYZ? Why? What did you get from it? How was it useful to you? What did you pull from it that you implemented? And for fucks sake, do not make it based on the last tweet that the person just put out there… It's very obvious you took no time to research them. And also, the question of, “Have you ever considered doing XYZ?” is just flat-out retarded. The answer is obviously yes. Every single creator or client worth reaching out to has considered the service you're talking about. It doesn't mean that they've done it, but they have considered it Webinars, improved sales letters, better VSLs, more emails to their list, short-form content, all of these things have been considered. So why the fuck are you asking them a stupid question? Instead, why don't you paint a vision for them and show them how you can help them achieve that vision along with the benefits that they would experience? An example of an Outreach message would be… Hey John, Really been loving the daily Instagram reels that you've been posting recently with various little health tips here and there… I've implemented a lot of them, specifically making sure that I eat all my food at room temperature instead of straight out of the fridge when it's cold. This has helped a lot with my digestion, so just wanted to say thank you for sharing that. With that being said, I've noticed that your email list doesn't get as much love as your Instagram page does? I get emails from you every now and then, but not on a consistent basis like your Instagram posts. I can imagine that posting that much content can be quite time-consuming, and I'm not sure if you're looking for this, but I wanted to ask if you'd be interested in having someone help you send out a consistent volume of emails to your list? I think this would be a great way to bring in a consistent volume of book calls for your ultimate health program blah blah blah blah blah call to action P.s. I went ahead and wrote up a sample email for you based on that health tip that I found useful, looking forward to hearing your thoughts. When you send something like this you're not guaranteed to close a client… But the worst case scenario is the client at least will reach back out to you say no thank you and perhaps give you some feedback on what you wrote for them… And heck, they may even keep you in mind for future projects or refer you to their colleagues. Best case scenario they're going to just hire you on the spot because you actually treated them like someone worthy of respect… Instead of acting like a total needy dick head. We'd been dating for about several months, and I had felt a connection with this girl unlike anything I'd ever experienced before Our conversations were amazing, the time spent was beautiful, and the intimacy was addicting. But at this moment, all I was experiencing was pain. Thunder boomed outside of my window, it was loud enough to cause my dogs to panic and run around the house whining. I could hear the rain pouring against my window. It was almost to ironic that the weather had changed right after she broke up with me over the phone. I'd consumed so much red pill content to try and set myself up in a position where I wouldn't experience heartbreak like this… But all that effort was pointless… The frame I tried to create was useless This disconnected unemotional version of myself was nowhere to be found when I was experiencing this level of heartbreak. A few weeks before this unfortunate night we went to a Van Gogh art exhibit that projected the art on the walls while playing some pretty cool music She gripped my shirt tight and looked up at me with her puppy dog eyes and then hug me close. “Fuck man, I’m in love with this girl.” The Thunder boomed again shaking my window, this was very unorthodox weather for Arizona. I stepped outside, still sobbing, and sat in my chair covered by my awning as I watched the rain pour into my backyard. I felt like shit. I felt like a loser. I felt like a little pussy from crying so much. But no matter how much the older brother in me tried to tell myself to keep my chin up, act like a man, and nut the fuck up… My emotions kept winning and pulling me further and further into a deep pit of anguish. Every single positive memory that I had of her, every single moment that we fell deeper in love, every single romantic touch… All of it was flashing in my head, my mind unable to take control of my thoughts. I tried my best not to judge myself, and instead just allowed myself to be present with myself and my emotions. This is one of the worst heartbreaks that I have ever experienced. My point in sharing this email is not to create some sort of boohoo, woe is me kind of story Not at all, this is quite a while back, I'm in a much better position now. I have a beautiful girl I'm in a very committed relationship with, we love each other deeply, and I'm very excited to continue to build something special with her. I'm sure there's no lack of Twitter gurus and Anon accounts that would call me a “simp” and would point out every single mistake I made while calling me all sorts of names… Trying to discredit me and who I am as an individual. The difference between me and them is I actually tell the truth. What I know to be certain, is that this experience is something many guys have gone through. Heartbreak is hard. Doesn't matter who you are or how tough of a guy you are…the right woman can drive you crazy. I guarantee you there's a guy reading this right now going, “fuck man I had the exact same experience.” In his own way, with his own setting, and his own circumstances, there's someone reading this right now… Relating to what I'm sharing today. This is why I tell so many of you guys that in order to become effective marketers or copywriters… You must be willing to actually go take part in the human experience. Sure, some parts of the human experience are fun, beautiful, charged with positivity and Light But as above so below The human experience is also equally filled with cataclysmic levels of darkness… Deep pits of despair… And gut-wrenching levels of pain. When you truly take all of it in, and allow yourself to really be present in it… You create something that is extremely valuable beyond most people's comprehension: Understanding. This is the next step right after knowledge and right before wisdom Step into understanding enough times, and eventually, wisdom will be formed Wisdom is truly what you're searching for… And it's on the tail end of you allowing yourself to be able to experience it without any judgment. Obtain wisdom and you’ll understand humans on a deeper level. Understand humans on a deeper level and pair that with the right skills… And you’ve got a bright future ahead of you.
