LOVE AINT LIES HOMIE

“Love ain't lies homie” I quickly scribbled those words onto my yellow notepad as I thought about what he was telling me… Looking up at my screen, I saw a stoic bearded man covered in tattoos sitting in a crazy penthouse in San Diego with floor-to-ceiling windows. This former prison convict, who was now helping me get into shape and better figure out how to control my mind, was a character and a half. For about 2 months, I had 1on1 coaching calls with this man Wes Watson… For those of you who don’t know, Wes served 10 years in the California prison system, got out, and built a fat fitness empire. I saw some of his videos on Instagram and was fascinated by his life philosophy, I was curious to pick his brain, so I whipped out my wallet and paid in full for his executive coaching program. We had a ton of calls, but those 4 little words were what stuck with me the most… “Love ain’t lies homie” (I promise we’ll tie this into marketing in a sec lol) People often shy away from what needs to be said, mainly because they don’t want to upset the other person… But if you actually care about that person, you’ll tell them EXACTLY what they need to hear. Funny enough, this week during bible study, we talked about this verse from Proverbs… “Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.” Think about that… A wound from a friend? What is that? It’s you telling your friend… “Dude you’re getting distracted and you need to get your shit together.” “You need to get back in the gym bro, you’re always a better man when you’re focused and disciplined.” “She’s no good for you man, that girl is a ticking time bomb.” Are they going to be upset? Yeah, of course, they will but people can be upset with you and still respect you. You being a stand-up motherfucker and speaking the truth is what earns respect. The inverse of that is “deceitful kisses of an enemy” “Oh everything is fine!” “Dude you look great!” “You guys are great for each other” Bullllllllllllllshhhiiiiiiiiiitttttt….. I’ve been harping on you guys to be more aggressive in your copy and marketing messages, because not only does it make your work more effective… BUT IT WILL MAKE YOU A BETTER PERSON! Writing is the transference of thoughts into the written word… And when you’re constantly thinking “WHAT REALLY NEEDS TO BE SAID?”... You will start to see that behavior shift into all areas of your life. You stop pulling punches, because you will become what you think about. The Mr. Nice Guy mask will just hold you back in all endeavors of life… Get better at telling other people the cold hard truth… You’ll get better at telling yourself the cold hard truth. Love ain’t lies homies. To Your Super Success, Nicholas Verge
