The Gavin Letters - Part 4

Hello Gavin, This week we’re going to continue your training along with getting you practicing reps. I’ll tell you what to do during that time here in a moment. Let’s first recap where we are at. Last week we had you go through Gary Halbert’s work and hand copy some of his work. I did this because I want you to slow down and focus on two very important things. First, how casual and non-formal his writing is. Second, the structure/format of his writing. In pretty much all of the writing I’ve reviewed from you, you were very rigid and formal. Second, your formatting was, on many occasions, very strange. Like this (with random parentheses) Almost like you were writing ; a haiku with all sorts of spelling errors, or questionable grammar choices, like random semicolons. When it comes to rigidness/formality, this habit will kill sales. You are not writing an academic thesis or a philosophical paper. You are writing to a friend. When it comes to the formatting, you will first lose us the client, because they will never want to publish your work. Poor formatting looks sloppy and amateur. Like the writer was drunk when they handed in their work. On top of that, it will also lose us the sale if it ever makes it to the public because people will not understand what they are reading. Now, before we move on to this week’s work, let’s talk about probably one of the most important lessons you can possibly learn. It is the lesson of FINISHING. Last week I gave you these instructions: “I want you to take three Gary Halbert newsletters and hand-copy them. Word for word. Get a notebook and a pen. Don’t type. Don’t summarize. Don’t skim. You’re going to write every single word, line by line, exactly as he wrote it… When you’re done with each newsletter, record a short voice memo. In it, tell me what you noticed.” And here’s what happened… * On Wednesday, you submitted part one of the assignment. * On Thursday, you submitted part two of the assignment. * On Friday, you texted me, “starting copy the final copy now” and… No assignment submitted. However, you did send me over some random philosophy assignment from your school work. Which is fine in a normal setting, but it comes with a bitter taste when we are not doing what we said we were going to do. Now, maybe you did finish part three and just forgot to send a picture and your thoughts. That’s entirely possible. But it doesn’t matter — the result is the same. You failed the assignment. In this line of work, intent doesn’t count. Output does. If it’s not submitted, it’s not done. If the client doesn’t see it, it doesn’t exist. You can’t assume people will give you the benefit of the doubt, because they won’t. Part of becoming a professional is closing the loop every single time. That means when you finish something, you send it. When you say “I’m wrapping it up,” you deliver it. No missing attachments, no “forgot to hit send,” no unfinished follow-through. You’ll lose clients, and trust, not because your writing is bad, but because your reliability is in question. Most clients can’t tell the difference between average copy and great copy anyway. What they can always tell is whether or not you did what you said you’d do, when you said you’d do it. Based on this, I can conclude that you likely have something called: Quickstart Tendency. This means you’re great at initiating things, but poor at closing them. You get momentum easily, but lose it just as fast when the excitement fades or the task becomes repetitive. It’s common among creative types, but in this field, it’s a deadly habit. Copywriting requires endurance. Every project starts with inspiration and ends with discipline. The end of the project (which is always the boring part) is where professionals are separated from amateurs. If you say you’ll finish something, it gets done. Not “almost done.” Not “I was about to send it.” Done means submitted, reviewed, and visible. That’s how trust is built, first with me, and then with clients. See why I don’t have you front facing with clients yet? I’ve been around the block a few times ;) So here’s what we’re going to do this week… FIRST, turn in last week’s assignment. And each day, I want you to do some training and some writing. At the end of the week we will review the work you’ve done and give you honest feedback. Please make sure you follow this schedule, plan it out ahead of time if need be. Or just wake up in the morning and get it done right away. Whatever works. I’d like for your schedule this week to look like this: Monday - Training + Writing (2 Hours) Tuesday - Training + Writing (2 Hours) Wednesday - Training + Writing (2 Hours) Thursday - Training + Writing (2 Hours) Friday - Training + Writing (2 Hours) For your training, I want you to read through the below PDFs that I have hyperlinked. Read through the PDFs and hand write notes on the side. This should take about 30 minutes or so to get through each PDF, spend 10 minutes recording your thoughts and sharing them with me. * Monday - Benefits * Tuesday - Big Ideas * Wednesday - Breakthrough Advertising * Thursday - Bullet Secrets Then, with the remaining time, I want you to focus on the writing assignments I have provided. You’ll find all of them on the tab to the left (or below, if you’re on mobile). Before you start writing your assignments, read the Reference Doc. Inside that tab are three ads I’ve recently written that I’m very excited to launch. I want you to study them carefully before you write. Pay attention to how they: * Frame the problem our audience is facing * Move naturally from problem → insight → offer * Use rhythm, pacing, and conversational flow These examples are there for a reason, they perfectly capture the emotional and logical gap our audience sits in right now. The closer you can get to that tone and structure, the faster you’ll improve. Once you’ve finished your assignment each day, send it in immediately. No delays, no “I’ll send it later.” The moment it’s done, close the loop and submit. That’s how you’ll build the habit we talked about. Also, please don’t apologize for not submitting the assignment on Friday. I’m not looking for an apology, just follow-through. What matters now is that you complete what’s left, follow the structure I’ve outlined, and build the habit of finishing. You have a clear schedule, clear instructions, and all the resources you need. Let’s make this week about execution and consistency. Turn in what’s missing, follow the plan each day, and keep me updated as you go. That’s how you’ll build trust and momentum moving forward. To Your Super Success, Nick ✅ Ad 1 You work 60+ hours a week to give your wife the life she says she wants. But all she does is complain that you're "never present." You pay the bills. You bought the house. You handle everything. And somehow you're still the bad guy because you check your phone at dinner? She turns her back to you in bed. Goes cold for days. And when you ask her what’s going on, she can't even articulate what's wrong. She just keeps saying "You're always working" or "Why can't you just be here with me?" Meanwhile you're thinking: "I AM here and everything I do is FOR you." You’ve built a good life. You handle responsibilities. You solve problems. From your perspective, there’s nothing to cry about. So when she breaks down over something small — you needing to take a call, a comment you made, the way she feels about something — it feels disconnected from reality. And it’s not that you don’t care, it’s that it doesn’t make sense. You think, “If she could just see it the way I do, this would all go away.” But my brother, what if that thought was the root of the issues you’re experiencing? What if the problem isn’t that she can’t see it the way you do — but that she’s not supposed to? You’re built to interpret the world through logic, structure, and order. She’s built to interpret it through emotion, intuition, and connection. Some men never realize this, but I pray you can hear me when I say this…her emotions aren’t about the event itself. They’re about whether she feels secure, seen, and connected to you. The truth is your wife is feeling massively insecure and she thinks what you do is because of how you feel about her. So when you respond with logic, saying things like, “It’s not that serious,” “I’m busy and need to handle this…” “This is what pays the bills”, you’re speaking a language she’s not receptive to. To her, your words sound like distance. Disconnection. Indifference. And every time that happens, she doesn’t calm down, she escalates. Not because she wants to fight or be stand-offish, but because she’s trying to reach you and you’re unintentionally pushing her hand away. This is why so many men feel like they’re doing everything right, yet their wives still seem unhappy. And until this changes, no amount of logic, effort, or provision will fix the distance she feels. Your marriage is only as strong as your weakest link. And right now, the weakest link is your ability to lead her emotionally. In fact, you’re likely handling everything else in your life pretty well. Sure, you could improve in some areas, we all can. Yet, fixing the dynamic of your relationship…when you fix this one area, everything else gets easier. My name is Tim Arrigo, I’m the founder of Beyond Driven, and over the past 5 years, we’ve helped over 5,000 driven, successful men just like you—men who felt unappreciated, misunderstood, and taken for granted—we’ve helped these men rebuild peace, respect, and connection in their homes. All of these men were in the same position you might be in right now. Their wives were constantly complaining, no matter how good life was. They worked hard, provided, stayed loyal, did everything “right”… Yet instead of gratitude, they got complaints, distance, or silence. They tried reading books, listening to podcasts, even going to therapy. But nothing was changing—because the real issue wasn’t being addressed. That’s why we built Beyond Driven. We show men exactly how to break the invisible habits and thought patterns that are the root cause of the issues inside their marriage. We help men see that you’re not the problem—it’s the patterns that keep you trapped in the same emotional loop which are the problem. That’s why we wanted to show you the exact process we’ve used to help these men create lasting change in their life by showing how to end these patterns permanently. On top of that, we want to show you why you’re even struggling in the first place, and when you understand the root cause of the issues you’re having at home, it’s gonna give you so much clarity man, you’ll be able to see that you’re not the problem, it’s just the patterns that you CAN get rid of. Why am I giving this to you? Because this is my mission. It’s part of my legacy—to help men who feel disrespected, unappreciated, or unseen finally take back control of their home and their heart. We put together a video that explains all of this in detail. I know you’ve seen the other ads from different men’s coaching programs online. The ones that try to get you to become an “alpha male”. Or maybe even the ones that teach you how to manipulate your wife. This is the furthest thing from that. This video is all about understanding what’s really happening when you give everything to a woman who still acts like it’s never enough—and how to fix that for good. That’s what we talk about in this video. It’s the same framework that’s helped thousands of men: * Bring their marriage back to life * Rebuild respect and connection in their home * Show up with confidence and purpose for their life * And most importantly, restore their faith and purpose If that sounds like where you want to be, there’s nothing to buy in that video There are no 3 secrets to unlock bla bla bla…nothing like that, this is a straight forward, no-BS video that’s designed to help you get to the root of the problem. Just click below and check out the video. ✅ Ad 2 You work over 60 hours a week to provide the lifestyle your wife gets to enjoy. You pay for the house, the cars, the vacations, all of the kids' stuff - everything. But at the end of the work day, when you’re exhausted, you’re not greeted with gratitude from your wife. Instead, you get complaints about “not being present enough" or "not being emotionally available." Let’s face it: when was the last time your wife put her hands around you and said, “I’m so grateful for everything you do to provide for us.” That’s probably not what happens, instead, your wife acts like your hard work is a choice you’re making, not a sacrifice you make FOR her. Many men in your exact situation hear their wives say things like… “Why can’t you just put the phone down?” “I hate your phone” “I hate your work” “You’re not talking to me” It’s not like you’re playing Candy Crush on your phone, or just scrolling on social media, you’re working to provide! You have to talk to people to get things done. Her complaints feel ungrateful, and truth is, it probably starts to make you resent her. Look, most men didn't choose to become workaholics. It started out of pure necessity. Maybe you were drowning in debt early in your marriage. Maybe you had kids on the way and panic set in about providing. Maybe you grew up watching your father burn the candle at both ends all the time. Whatever it was, you HAD to work those crazy hours just to keep your head above water. But here's what happened: That necessity became a habit. And that habit became your comfort zone. Now work isn't just what you do - it's who you are. It's where you feel valuable, accomplished, in control. It's the one place where effort equals results, where the rules make sense, where you know exactly how to win. Meanwhile at home? Nothing makes sense. Your wife is warm one day, ice-cold the next. She says she wants you to be present but can't explain what that actually means. You're speaking different languages and neither of you has a translator. But here's what's going to happen if nothing changes - and this is the part nobody talks about: She's going to stop asking for your attention altogether. Right now she's still complaining, still getting frustrated, still turning her back in bed. That means she still cares enough to fight for the relationship. But there's a countdown timer running that you can't see. One day, you'll come home after crushing it at work, ready to celebrate, and she won't be cold or angry. She'll be indifferent. Pleasant, even. Like a polite roommate. That's when you'll know the timer hit zero. She's stopped expecting anything from you emotionally. She's making peace with a marriage that's just logistics. And that's exactly when another man - maybe a coworker, maybe someone from the gym, maybe just a guy who actually listens when she talks - starts looking really attractive to her. Not because she's a bad person. But because she's dying of emotional starvation while you're force-feeding her material success. The affair statistics we see aren't about moral failure. They're about emotional abandonment. And right now, you're abandoning her every single day while thinking you're sacrificing for her. The clock is ticking. She's either going to leave, cheat, or worse - stay and die inside your marriage. My name is Tim Arrigo, I'm the founder of Beyond Driven, and over the past 5 years, we've helped over 5,000 driven, successful men just like you—men who were doing everything right but still couldn't figure out why their wives seemed so unhappy. All of these men were exactly where you are right now. Working their asses off, providing everything, staying loyal… Yet getting coldness, complaints, and rejection in return. They tried books, podcasts, even therapy. Nothing worked because they were addressing the wrong problem. That's why we built Beyond Driven. We show men the invisible pattern that's creating disconnection—how what started as necessary hard work became your only source of validation and identity. More importantly, we show you how to flip the script WITHOUT working less. Here's the truth: You could work 100 hours a week and have an incredible marriage—IF you knew how to show up differently in the small windows of time you ARE home. It's not about the quantity of time. It's about quality of presence. 20 minutes of real connection beats 2 hours of being physically there but mentally checked out. Your wife doesn't need more hours—she needs YOU, fully there, in the moments you have. Why am I sharing this? Because this is my mission. To help successful men who are crushing it everywhere except at home, where it matters most. We put together a video that shows you exactly how this works. I know you've seen other coaches online saying thye can help you fix their marriage. But to you it just feels like a bunch of "alpha male" BS, and let’s be honest, their stuff is just manipulation tactics. This is about understanding why you and your wife speak completely different languages—logical versus emotional—and how to become fluent in hers without sacrificing who you are. The same framework that's helped thousands of men: * Master the art of presence (even with limited time) * Create moments of real connection that fill her emotional tank * Rebuild intimacy and desire * Stay just as driven while being emotionally available You don't have to choose between success and connection. You can have both. Watch the video. There's nothing to buy. No gimmicks. Just click below and I'll show you how to give your wife what she actually needs while keeping your edge in business. ✅ Ad 3 You just had one of the best days in your career. Maybe you broke a sales record or just had a record month… Naturally, you want to celebrate and you expect your wife to be intimate with you. And what do you hear? “I’m tired…” Or… “I’m not in the mood…” And that doesn’t just feel like rejection, it makes you feel frustrated. Because it feels, “I do all of this for us, and you do nothing all day, but you’re tired?” And here’s the unfortunate part, this is extremely common. In fact, this is why 50% of marriages end up in divorce in the US. And out of that 50%, 20% to 40% of the marriages are because of infidelity. The husband thinks he’s checking all the boxes. He’s providing. He’s staying loyal. And naturally, all of these “red pill” guys you see online, they blame women. But here's what's actually happening beneath the surface... Your wife doesn't want your success. She wants to feel chosen. Think about it - when you close a big deal, you feel alive. Validated. Worthy. That dopamine hit confirms you matter, that you're winning at something. But when you come home expecting her to match that energy, she's sitting there thinking: "He put in 12 hours of focused effort for that deal, but can't put in 12 minutes of focused attention on me." She’s not really tired, she’s emotionally starved. See, you're operating from a fundamental misunderstanding about what creates desire. You think provision creates attraction. But attraction isn't logical - it's emotional. And emotionally, she feels like the last item on your priority list. Here's what really stings: She sees you at your best with everyone BUT her. Everyone else gets you at your best - your charm, your focus, your energy. She gets the exhausted leftover version of you who just wants to zone out or get a quick release. Right now, you're asking for intimacy while offering transaction. "I worked hard today, you should want me." That's not seduction - that's an invoice. Meanwhile, she's craving what you freely give everywhere else - your presence, your attention, your curiosity about who she really is beneath the role of “your wife." The hard part is you're both right: * You ARE breaking your back to provide * She IS feeling abandoned in the process And if you want to be the man in the relationship instead of a victim letting life happen to you, you need to lead you and your wife out of this predicament. You see, your entire life rewarded you for being logical, compartmentalized, and emotionally controlled. Every success came from suppressing feelings and solving problems with pure logic. But your wife doesn't speak logic. She speaks emotion. And every time you try to solve her emotional needs with logical solutions, you're speaking Chinese to someone who only understands Spanish. Here's what would change everything: You could work 100 hours a week and she'd happily be intimate with you - IF you knew how to show up emotionally in the few hours you ARE home. It's not about the hours. It's about HOW you show up. We show men exactly how to break the invisible patterns keeping them trapped in this cycle. Not by working less. Not by becoming "soft." But by learning to bring the same intensity they have at work into creating real moments of connection at home. I put together a video that explains exactly how this works. I know you’ve seen other guys online telling you they can help you fix your marriage but to you it just feels like a bunch of BS. They tell you that you need to become an "alpha male" or that you need to go through some sort of military bootcamp to fix your marriaghe. It’s all wildly unnecessary, all you need is to see the truth about what's really happening when you give everything to a woman who acts like it's never enough - and how to fix it for good. The video we’ve put together shows you the same framework we’ve used to help thousands of men bring their marriages back to life while staying just as driven and successful in their careers. If that sounds like where you want to be, there’s nothing to buy in that video There are no 3 secrets to unlock bla bla bla…nothing like that, this is a straight forward, no-BS video that’s designed to help you get to the root of the problem. Writing Assignment: The Benefits Chart Exercise Your Mission: Create a complete Benefits Inventory for Beyond Driven using Clayton's 8-step process from the PDF. Then write a piece of copy that dimensionalizes the hell out of it. Part 1: Build Your Benefits Chart Follow pages 2-6 exactly: Step 1: Answer these questions about our successful-but-frustrated entrepreneur: * What problem does he want to solve? * What are his core desires? * What are his relevant beliefs? Step 2: Read through the features list here for our offer, The Total Breakthrough Academy (90-Day Intensive) Step 3: For each feature, identify WHY it exists (the "reason why") Step 4: Translate each feature into a functional benefit (what it DOES) Step 5: Dimensionalize each benefit (make it tangible, visceral, real) Step 6: Connect each dimensionalized benefit to emotion (Which positive emotion will this create? Which negative emotion will it relieve?) Step 7: Rank benefits by importance to our prospect Step 8: Write the benefits for maximum impact Part 2: Write Your Copy Using your completed chart, write: 1. A Gene Schwartz-style opening (like page 7's examples) that dimensionalizes ONE core benefit so powerfully the prospect can FEEL it 2. Three different benefit statements for the same core benefit - each using a different technique from page 11: * Direct statement * Scenario/story approach * Third-party perspective 3. One "chocolate sidebar" (page 11) - a completely different angle on the same benefit that makes them see it fresh Writing Assignment: The Big Selling Idea Your Mission: Create a piece of copy that stops our prospect cold. Write This: A full-page ad following Gene Schwartz's structure (like the wrinkle cream examples on pages 2-3). Requirements based on the PDF's 7 steps: 1. Start with research - Read through our sales call analysis. Find the ONE thing that would shock our prospect the most. Not "you're working too hard" - that's expected. What's the thing they'd never expect to hear? 2. Write 3-5 different Big Selling Ideas - each one sentence. Test each against the PDF's criteria: Is it unexpected? Simple? Relatable? Tangible? Emotional? A story? 3. Pick your strongest and write: * A headline that captures the unexpected element * Supporting deck copy (2-3 lines) * First 200 words of body copy that dramatizes the idea 4. Use the PDF's techniques: * Make it tangible like the "28 bowls of cereal" * Add proof element upfront (like Gene's physician endorsements) * Create an enemy (what they're doing now that's killing them) * Paint the transformation story Format Example to Copy: Look at page 6 - the "Shameless Two-Faced S.O.B.s!" promotion. See how it: * Opens with pure emotion * Names specific enemies * Promises transformation * Has a clear benefit Now do that for Beyond Driven. Make our prospect feel like you've been reading their diary. Make them say "How did you know?" Writing Assignment: Two Hooks for Two Audiences Your Task: Write two hooks for Beyond Driven - one for each end of Gene Schwartz's awareness spectrum. Hook 1: Level 1 (Most Aware) These guys already know Beyond Driven. They've probably seen our stuff, maybe even been on a call. They just need a reason to act NOW. Write a hook that: * Uses our name * Assumes they know what we do * Gives them a reason to act today * Could be as simple as scarcity/urgency Hook 2: Level 5 (Completely Unaware) These successful guys have no idea men's development exists. They just know something's off in their life. Write a hook that: * Makes ZERO promises * Mentions NO solution * Just echoes their emotional state * Makes them think "That's exactly how I feel" Deliverable: * One Level 1 hook (5-10 sentences) * One Level 5 hook (5-10 sentences) * Brief explanation of why each would work for that audience Writing Assignment: The Bullet Blitz Exercise Your Task: Write as many bullets as you can for Beyond Driven using at least 10 different formulas from the PDF. Use These Formulas: 1. "How to" bullet - Most popular, works with deep desires 2. "Secret to" bullet - For info not commonly known 3. "What" bullet - Specific instructions or valuable info 4. "What NEVER" bullet - Alerts to mistakes, builds fear 5. "Number" bullet - Groups benefits/secrets together 6. "Sneaky" bullet - Hidden/guarded elements 7. "If...Then" bullet - Engages by meeting a requirement 8. "Truth" bullet - Settles controversial issues 9. "Better" bullet - Your solution beats the assumed good option 10. "Single" bullet - The ONE most important thing Your Bullets Must Include: * Specificity (not "make money" but "307% profit") * Mechanism (HOW the benefit is achieved) * Emotional triggers (hit their actual pain points) * Curiosity gaps (make them NEED to know)
