The Wealthy Consultant Emails 12/6/23

Email For 12/6/23 Subject Line: it’s your mom’s fault (not really)[a] Humans are comfort seeking machines… And if you don’t make a deliberate effort to rewire this part of you, you’ll always be driving your business with the handbrake on. (In other words, you’re not going to go very far before the engine breaks) Here’s a great way to understand this… Think about your life from ages 2 to 10 and how your parents had to teach you how dangerous everything was: “Don’t stick that in the socket, you’ll shock yourself.” “Make sure to look both ways before you cross the street, or else you’ll get hit by a car.” “If you walk away and get lost, you’ll get kidnapped” Scary and painful stuff, right? But let’s go even further back and think about the newborn version of you, fresh home from the hospital… The second you felt a smidge of discomfort, what did you do? You cried for the only source of comfort you knew: your mother. Listen, if you believe that the first 10 years of your life did not have a massive impact on the way you currently think about comfort, you’re not thinking. In other words, it’s your mom’s fault your business isn’t growing the way you want it to. (Kidding, we all know that’s not true.) In all honesty, your parents were just looking out for you to make sure you didn’t die, they probably weren’t trying to install limiting beliefs into you… But whether you like it or not, those early lessons stuck. It shaped an instinctive comfort-seeking impulse you still carry today. If you’re like most people, you approach anything unknown (new offers, new relationships, or new marketing channels) with your defenses sky-high… You make the mistake of focusing on what discomfort may bring, rather than the growth it offers. Internally, whenever you encounter the unknown, your mind screams “stay where it's safe!” But here’s the harsh truth: Growth only comes from discomfort. When you're comfortable, you're not pushing your boundaries or challenging yourself. It's in the moments of discomfort that you learn, adapt, and grow. This is especially true in business. If you're always operating within your comfort zone, you're likely missing out on massive opportunities for progress. There are two risks present in the entrepreneur's life: 1. The risk that you make a decision and it may not work 2. The risk that you do nothing and it’s guaranteed to not work. But hold up, we just have to look at this logically for a second to realize we’re acting like a child. Choosing the latter, the risk of inaction, is 100% making a decision to cling to comfort. Let me ask you this… Think about all of the most successful members of the human race, the people you and I look up to like: * Elon Musk * Steve Jobs * Walt Disney * Winston Churchill Every single one of them had to take MAJOR risks to get to where they’re at today. If you’re reading this today, I know you’re called to create an impact… Maybe it’s not as big of those giants I just mentioned, but maybe it is. Regardless, I hope you can see that embracing discomfort is a necessity for growth and survival in business… Trust me, growth will never “feel” safe to you SIGN OFF?[b][c] P.S. I may or may not be releasing an upcoming memo that covers this exact topic… More to come on that soon. [a]fuckin' banger [b]??
