The Devil's 98% Control

Currently re-reading one of my favorite books of all time, Outwitting The Devil by Napoleon Hill.

(For the purpose of this article, I’m just going to abbreviate it OTD)

I think I first read this book about a year and a half ago, I discovered it right before a bike ride and literally couldn’t stop pedaling because it was so damn good.

If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend grabbing a copy, but to give a basic summary…

Napoleon Hill put himself in a trance state and created a back-and-forth interview with the devil where all of the evil tactics to control the human mind are revealed.

A lot of people read this and go, “How do you know he didn’t just make this all up, it could literally just be Napoleon Hill’s imagination.”

These are the same types of people that say, “Can you show me any empirical evidence that god exists? “

Dorks.

Here’s what I’ve realized at this point in my life, there really is no right or wrong, there’s just what is useful to us at that moment.

You may say murder is wrong, but to the man whose daughter was killed by a drug addict psychopath, avenging his daughter’s life is very right to him.

He doesn’t want the law to take responsibility for what happened.

So again, it’s not about right or wrong, it’s about if the subject or action at hand is serving us or not.

Unfortunately, we can’t operate in a society like that, otherwise, everyone would be murdering everyone and doing all types of things they feel is useful to them.

So we have to have laws in place, but that’s not really the point of what I’m getting at…

And before I go down a rabbit hole of how I would construct the laws of society, let me focus on the main point I want to emphasize here…

I really do believe that Hill’s interview with the devil is one of the most useful pieces of self-development work out there.

My favorite part of OTD is covered in the first few pages of the interview where the devil reveals that he controls 98% of the humans on earth.

Whenever I go out into the world, whether it be at the grocery store, the gym, the farmers market, a marketing conference, whatever it is…

I realize that most of the people walking around there are entirely unconscious and not in control of their minds.

They don’t know why they think the thoughts that they think…

They don’t really know what they want from life…

They don’t know who they are really at all…

They don’t view themselves as a god, they view themselves as just their name and their occupation.

And I say that last line very VERY carefully…

You are not THE god, you are A god.

If you don’t find that connection in your life currently, I encourage you to do some digging to go find it, because it’s there.

It took me a while to really start to be okay with the fact that 98% of the world is completely unconscious.

I don’t know what it was, maybe it’s that I have a savior complex, but for some reason, this would just depress the living hell out of me.

Everywhere I went, I was reminded of the devil’s work.

It still comes back in waves at times, but a lot of what has really brought me so much peace in my life is getting closer to Christ.

I don’t mean to get all biblical on you, I know some people pucker up the second they hear about Jesus…

I try and view things from a somewhat logical point of view with everything.

Christianity is one of the oldest bodies of work we have which attempts to explain the way the world works through cryptic stories and lessons.

So we now know that every single form of matter in this world is made up of atoms.

And I really do believe that all Christianity was trying to do was use symbols, stories, and characters to explain that core concept that we’ve now proven with science.

How did they know it?

Fuck if I know, but they for sure got it figured out.

I think Christ is nothing more than the embodiment of the positive part (proton) of the atom…

The devil is the embodiment of the negative part (electron) of the atom…

And god is the embodiment of the neutral part (neutron) of the atom…

The reason I say God is neutral is that he is ALL, and if he’s all, he’s both negative and positive, which leads to no charge at all.

I mean, after all, he did create the devil to balance things out.

So yeah, it’s easy to get bummed out that 98% of the world is occupied by the devil, and yes, the number is kind of arbitrary, it could be 75% or 87%, we don’t really know.

What’s obvious is that it’s a majority of the world.

But if you think about just how amazing that 2% of the world that’s not occupied by the devil is…

You’ll find a much better outlook on life.

For me, the people that occupy that 2% make this life worthwhile…

I think about my mentor Ron Lynch, I get emotional every time I think about our conversations because of how much he’s changed my life for no reason other than he saw something in me.

I think about Jesse Elder, and how peaceful the energy feels when I’m around him, the last name Elder is very fitting because of how much wisdom he has.

I think about Kyree Oliver who serves as an older brother for me, having conversations with me I try to avoid and always caring about me.

I think about Cody Jefferson, I mean this guy is just so excited about life and just embodies masculine energy perfectly, the conversations I’ve had with him still echo in my mind.

So while it’s easy to be a doomer and focus on the 98% of the world that’s controlled by negative energy…

I think you’ll find a lot more peace and contentment in your life focusing on just how powerful and beautiful that 2% of the world is that’s controlled by positive energy.
