The Secret To Lasting Change

The only way we change the external world is by changing the internal world.
We cannot change the external with the external.
I think the most relatable example of this is in the area of health & fitness.
I have a full gym setup in my garage…
I spent close to $500 on an X3 bar…
I’ve gone through Kinobody and several other programs…
I’ve done keto, carnivore, and paleo diets…
I’ve started and stopped tons of routines and regimens…
But none of these things got me into shape or kept me working out consistently.
That’s not to say any of these things didn’t work or that I couldn’t have gotten them to work had I focused on being consistent with them…
Truly what I was lacking was not another workout program, diet, or piece of equipment…
It was the proper internal conversation that would actually make me want to work out consistently.
Before, my internal conversation was very negotiable, meaning that I would work out if I was feeling like it that day…
This is why I never really saw any progress with my physique.
Now, my internal conversation is non-negotiable, I need to hit a workout because that’s the version of me that I’m committed to…
I changed the internal because I wanted to change who I was and how I looked.
And I’m sorry to say this, but there’s no button you can press to change your internal world…
I truly think that a lot of it comes from fucking up and hitting rock bottom a couple of times to the point where you say “Never again!”
Affirmations can be helpful, but even then you could tell yourself the same “I am…” statement over and over again…
But as I’ve said in previous posts, what you need to understand is that everything in this world is a form and degree of power.
Affirmations fall into the category of “towards pleasure”...
Whereas remembering the feeling of sitting on the living room floor crying because you were so numb from weed, you felt like shit from everything you were eating, and you hated what was looking back at you in the mirror…
(Speaking from experience here as you can tell…)
Remembering that feeling and never wanting to go back there, falls into the category of “away from pain.”
And trust me, away from pain is more powerful than towards pleasure…
This is why when you turn on the news it’s not all sunshine and rainbows…
They understand the power of using “away from pain” in their messaging.
It’s polarizing.
That experience for me was packed with so much emotion, that it made me say, “Never again!”
I had to fundamentally change my character…
Which starts with you changing your thoughts, and that’s not a small task.
Because first of all, you need to admit you’re thinking wrong…
And then you need to analyze WHY and HOW you’re thinking wrong…
From there, you need to ask the question…
“What am I looking to achieve?”
And after that…
“If I already had achieved this, how would I think?”
Now, here’s where other people or some form of external energy I suppose could help you.
Just find someone who has what you want and figure out how they think.
Imitate in your own life, and try to make it your own.
For instance, I did a good bit of coaching with Wes Watson to help figure out how to be more consistent and disciplined…
It was very useful, but there’s a bunch of shit I don’t agree with that he says, which is totally okay.
I fucking love Wes, he’s a really dope dude, I don’t need him to do all my thinking for me.
I extracted what I needed to change the internal so I could become the person who’s on the path to achieving what I want from life.
So to wrap this up…
My friends, it all starts internally…
Everything revolves around the way you view yourself…
Your self-image.
Which is what determines your internal character…
Change those two things and you can change your entire world.
