There's Always Only Now

Well howdy, subscriber…

This is honestly the latest time I’ve ever posted anything for this substack.

I’ve been running around all day getting errands banged out and ducks in a row for a last-minute trip to Las Vegas to go hang with that client I told you about in my last post.

I’m debating whether to burn the midnight oil to get some work done, or whether I should just get some sleep and get up early…

I’ll decide in the next 30 min or so.

But I wanted to share something with you that really made my day…

I had a follow-up call with Jesse Elder today and he said something to me that really made sense to me…

Can’t remember his exact words, but it was something along the lines of how you can’t torture yourself to a happy ending.

And that there’s always only now.

Okay, so what the fuck does that mean?

Well, for the longest time I’ve been extremely hard on myself.

Like to the point where I would drive myself into a deep state of depression tormenting myself over how I wasn’t reaching my full potential…

I would push and push and push and force myself to work work work.

I was such a dick to myself, never being understanding, always being extremely harsh and self-critical.

In what way does doing all of this for years and years, end up with a happy ending where everything worked out?

No, suffering leads to more suffering.

The only way to create the happy ending…

Is to create a happy process.

It can’t be putting this extreme level of stress and punishment on yourself because “you’re a fuck up and you gotta get it together!”

Well, I mean it can be that, but that doesn’t lead to any form of internal bliss or peace…

That just leads to you bullying yourself and destroying your self worth.

Who gets talked to like that?

Honestly, would you talk to someone you loved and cared for in such a harsh way?

I know some people won’t get it, and if that’s the case for you…

Good!

That means you don’t have this problem.

But if you understand what I’m laying out here through your own experience…

I want you to think about that second statement Jesse shared with me…

There’s always only now.

Now is what creates the future.

What you want in the future you must create now.
